Friends & Neighbors,
There are lots of developments to report:
HANLEY ROAD IMPROVEMENT PROJECT
The City awarded a contract to HR Green, Inc. to provide engineering services necessary to start the Hanley Road improvement project. We plan to widen Hanley from Feise Rd north to Prairie Meadow and to add curbs, gutters and sidewalks. Engineering will be done in 2018, right-of-way acquisition in 2019; and construction in 2020.
PARKS AND RECREATION MASTERPLAN
The City awarded a contract to Planning Design Studio (PDS) to develop a masterplan for expansion of parks and recreation. PDS will assess the recreational needs and desires of residents and the various options available for meeting those desires. The plan will address both the cost to build facilities and the cost to operate. The half-cent sales tax approved by the voters will be a big help but won’t generate enough revenue to do everything people have asked for. The Masterplan will help guide our choices.
The City approved development of 52 homes on the property located between Pinnacle Point and Dardenne Meadows. Access to Cordoba will be at the Bryan Road Exit off westbound 364 at the roundabout. Construction is expected to begin when the weather warms up.
Work orders have been submitted to the County Road Department to make repairs to potholes and other minor defects in many city streets. Work will begin now that better weather is upon us. The contractor who performed slab replacement on Devon Drive last year will return to repair the expansion joints that have failed during the winter. Bainbridge residents and visitors may have noticed joint filling material has been heaved up during recent rains. The work performed last year is still under warranty so there will be no additional cost to the City for this remedial work.
I-64 CORRIDOR STUDY
The City is hosting another Open House meeting on Tuesday, April 24 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM to show interested citizens the latest “concept” drawings for improving access off and on I -64 and MO 364 in Dardenne Prairie. We urge residents and business owners to come to City Hall on Tuesday to see what is on the table now and to ask questions and provide feedback. If these plans are approved and built there will be a major boost to commerce at Town Square and to development along Technology in Dardenne Prairie.
SUNTERRA OF DARDENNE PRAIRIE
The proposed 38-bed surgical rehabilitation facility will be up for review by the Planning & Zoning Commission on May 9, 2018. That facility, if approved, would be built at the corner of Highway N and Monet Drive. I have asked the developer to attend a public meeting at City Hall on May 3 at 7:00 PM to explain the proposed development to interested citizens, most particularly the residents of Canvas Cove. You may recall that the County approved the facility over a year ago. In the meantime, Dardenne Prairie started the process to annex that parcel into the City. It looks like we will have the opportunity to review the plans and uses proposed for that parcel. I expect to have more new for you next week.
NEW MEMBER OF THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN
With his family and friends in the audience at City Hall, Justin Ungerboeck was sworn in as the new Alderman for Ward 2 on Wednesday evening. Justin is a senior official at Ungerboeck Software International at the Company’s headquarters in Dardenne Prairie. Members of the Board of Aldermen welcomed Justin to the Board and bid farewell to Doug Santos who served the City well as an Alderman for four years and for several years before that as one of the St. Charles County Police Officers assigned to Dardenne Prairie. Alderman Dave Wandling (Ward 1) and Alderman Dan Koch (Ward 3) were re-elected to another term and were sworn in as well. Alderman Blake Nay (Ward 2) was re-elected as President of the Board of Aldermen and Alderman Dave Wandling was designated by the Board to join the Planning & Zoning Commission as the Board’s representative.
