Friends & Neighbors,
We had a nice turnout of over 100 people to view the solar eclipse at the Barathaven Park today. The “once in a lifetime” total eclipse of the sun is now done and we can turn our attention to other important matters.
The Board of Aldermen will meet in Special Session on Tuesday, August 22 at 6:00 PM (a new time) to hold a public hearing regarding the proposed annexation of 8 parcels of unincorporated St. Charles County into the city limits of Dardenne Prairie. Property owners and other interested persons are welcome to attend and speak to the Board during the public hearing. If the board decides to proceed with the annexations the matter will be put to the Voters on November 7, 2017. The City is striving to plan growth and development over the next few years. It is hard to manage that when parcels in the middle of town are not under the jurisdiction of the City. Existing uses of such property by current owners would be grandfathered so the current owners would not be displaced or forced to stop their current business or use.
The City staff is preparing to host two Open House meetings at City Hall in September to hear residents tell us what kinds of recreational activities and facilities they would like to have in Dardenne Prairie. We will also be ready to answer questions about the proposed increase in Sales Tax to be earmarked for Parks and Storm Water projects and operations. The Open House meetings are on: Wednesday, September 13 at 5:30-7:00 PM; and Thursday, September 21 at 7:00 to 8:00 PM. Prop P is on the November 7, 2017 ballot .
New Meeting Time for BOA:
We have moved the start time for future BOA Workshop Meetings from 5:30 to 6:00 PM. The start time for the Business Meeting will be adjusted to 7:30.
2018 Budget Cycle:
We have begun the process of drafting the 2018 budget for the City. The Staff’s forecast of revenue and expenses for 2018 will be compiled by August 31 and a draft budget will be submitted to the Board of Aldermen in late September. During October the Board will discuss priorities for both operations and capital improvements. After the Board has examined the Staff Budget a revised draft will be posted on the City website in November for public review and comment. We plan to have the 2018 budget adopted by December 6. If you have some suggestions for street, sidewalk, park, or other construction projects or for other city operations please contact your Aldermen.
Just a reminder that Prairie Day will be held on Saturday, September 23 at City Hall Park and in front of City Hall at 2032 Hanley Road in Dardenne Prairie. Look for details on the City Website (www.dardenneprairie.org).
