Friends & Neighbors,
I hope you and your families enjoy a happy Independence Day!
It was 241 years ago that the Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence, our nation’s founding document. As John Adams wrote to his wife of this great event on this date in 1776:
“I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated, by succeeding Generations, as the great anniversary Festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance by solemn Acts of Devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more.”
Enjoy the fireworks [illuminations]! After all, it is a tradition dating back 241 years.
On Wednesday, July 5 The Board of Aldermen will meet to conduct the City’s business. We will have the honor to meet Bailey Crow, a student at Liberty High School who will represent Dardenne Prairie in the 2017 Miss Missouri Teen USA Pageant. We will also be privileged to have Julian Hernandez, a 4th grade student at Immaculate Conception of Dardenne who is Mayor for a Day.
For all residents who are interested in hearing about proposed expansion of the City’s Parks & Recreation Programs, we will be holding the first of several public presentations to review design concepts showing several alternative developments. The July 5th presentation will provide a look at some design concepts for an expanded park at Barathaven. We will see some additional design concepts at subsequent BOA meetings. Nothing has been decided as to where or if we will actually expand the City’s Parks. We want to hear from the public before any final decisions are made.
I urge interested citizens to attend our meetings. Our Workshop Meeting begins at 5:30 on Wednesday, July 5 at City Hall.
HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!
